President of Hi Fly visits Beja Airport
14 April 2016
Paulo Mirpuri, president of Hi Fly, visited Beja Airport yesterday to mark the first three months of use of this infrastructure by the airline.
Hi Fly has been utilizing the Alentejo airport as a hub for part of its fleet, consisting of wide-body aircraft from families Airbus A330 and A340. The airline considers Beja Airport as a good alternative to the more crowded Portuguese airports. This infrastructure offers further advantageous conditions, such as its relative proximity to Hi Fly’s operational hub, located in Lisbon. “We are very pleased with the first three months of use of Beja Airport as a hub for part of our long-haul aircraft fleet, Airbus A330s and A340s. The airport management company and the airport team have made a significant effort to satisfy Hi Fly’s requirements and operational needs. The good results are an incentive for us to continue investing in this new operational hub”, said Paulo Mirpuri, President of Hi Fly.
Between January 13 and April 13, eight out of the twelve aircraft that compose Hi Fly’s fleet have passed through Beja Airport, making up for a total of 21 departures and 26 arrivals, from and to airports like Schiphol (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Gatwick (London, England), Brussels (Belgium), Munich (Germany) or Stockholm (Sweden), among others.
Beja Airport is a Portuguese airport located next to EM 528-2, S. Brissos, 180 km south of Lisbon and 150 km north of the Algarve. The infrastructure began operating on April 13, 2011, and is prepared to receive 1.5 million passengers a year. The airport consists of a lane located at Air Base No. 11, a platform with 18 parking positions, a circulation path, one passenger terminal with a floor area of 4700 m2 and one cargo terminal with a 50.000 tons/year capacity.
